Clausen, Grund and Pfaffenthal occupy the old valley below the city centre, along the Alzette river. This is the oldest part of the city, with narrow streets, former fortifications and riverside paths used for walking and cycling. Bars and restaurants line the Rives de Clausen, drawing visitors in the evening. The funicular and lifts connect the valley quickly to Ville-Haute and Kirchberg above.
